Glossary & More

It has come to the author's attention that some readers may not be familiar with all of the religious concepts mentioned throughout Kashrus Hakishuf.  The goal of the remainder of this page is to help clarify these issues in an orderly format.

PART ONE: Harry Potter: A Scriptural Synopsis

The Torah is broken up into five books (Chumashim) which are as a whole subdivided into fifty-four weekly portions (Parshiyos).  Part One contains a reference to each of these Parshiyos, indicated by italics (e.g. beginning for Bereishis; rested for Noach; go for himself for Lech L’cha; etc.).

The commentary on the bottom of each page is entitled “Pirush Rashiz.”  This is a play on words: the standard commentary found on the bottom of the Chumash is “Pirush Rashi,” an acronym for its author, R’ Shlomo Yitzchaki; similarly, “Rashiz” stands for the name of this book’s author, R’ S. Y. Zeitlin.

PART TWO: Inyanim Shonim

PART THREE: Plotholes: Pirushim and P’shatim

The vast majority of this part relies upon a working knowledge of details from the Harry Potter canon as opposed to Judaism specifically.  The more familiar you are with the series, the more you will appreciate it.
